I wanted to let you know that my documentary on the separation of church and state is finally available for purchase. It would make a great educational tool for homeschooling or for those who just love to watch educational documentaries. It played on PBS as "Wall of Separation," but it has been renamed "Faith of Our Fathers" which I think is dumb, but I'm not the distributor, so... alas. I did it in a Ken Burns style of historical investigation, and I'm proud of it. Definitely not the usual socialist interpretation you would get on PBS.

Anyway, here is the logline for the video:
This historical documentary takes a look at what the Founding Fathers intended when they framed the Constitution and wrote the First Amendment religion clauses. Were they trying to create a Christian nation, a secular paradise, or something in between? The documentary looks at how our understanding of church and state relations has changed through history by means of Supreme Court decisions and cultural pressures. From Everson vs. Board of Education to the most recent decisions over Ten Commandments displays, such interpretations are explored in comparison with the Founder's original intent. Approx. 60 minutes.

Wow... I can't believe I'm doing this!

So I originally posted this on the wrong blog. I guess that's what I get for having too many blogs.

Anyway I got tagged by the above individual.

What are the 15 things I'm not ashamed to admit.

1: I'm a Nikon guy.

2: In contrast to Sierra I actually enjoy a wide variety of chick flicks.

3: I enjoy dancing, but there are qualifications

4: I require a lot of sleep. optimally I would go to bed at 10 and wake at 7 :)

5: Some people just annoy me. End of story.

6: I think a lot of people have misconceptions about the way things should be.

7: I have over 100,000 photos on my computer. (actually they have their own luxurious storage space.

8: *I have a beautiful guitar and I play it really well

9: I am fairly certain that I fall into a "leader" personality type somehow.

10: I am open to trying new experiences as long as it doesn't involved "new" food.

11: If I can limit my "B" grades to only one this semester I will Graduate Magna Cum Laude at Illinois State University!

12: I love taking pictures of people, but there are naturals out there who just know how to pose. I love those people (in a non-creepy sort of way)

13: When I was younger I used to carve toy weapons out of wood. I've made a Thompson Sub-Machine Gun, An Uzi (which I gave as a gift), a Flintlock pistol, and my own copy of "sting" from LOTR.

14: When I was younger I was into Guns, Knives, and Self Defense. You might not know it to look at me now, but I can still kick your butt! :)

15: I have a fairly amazing sense of balance and can hold my own at the Limbo! Dare to challenge me?

My intention is to post in accordance with projects I complete. This may seems strange to those who know me, but am continually fascinated with old things. Chairs in particular fascinate me. I have concluded that my fascination is derived in a certian degree by the mystery connected with the old item. Everything that is affected by human interaction contains a unique history. Chair are obviously designed to interact with people on a regular basis. It is due to this that I find chairs to be so cool.

I currently have two chairs of which I am proud. I guess you could call this the beginning of my collections, but I don't know if I would go that far... yet. Since I don't have pictures of my chairs I'll try and describe them.

Small Swivel Task Chair
This chair is pretty cool... it is full swivel task chair with a screw height adjustment and a reclining back. Its construction is solid wood and cast iron.

Small wooden folding chair
This, I can only assume was the predecessor to the metal folding chairs we know and love. The cool thing is it folds differently, is kinda layed back, and smaller. I have used this a lot for photography.

Chairs for me are a new thing. I haven;t done a lot of research concerning chairs and their styles, but I think I may start. My grandpa... has/had a old dental chair from the... I don't know what era, but its cool. If I had room for it I would love to have it. My mom just recently acquired a cool old school desk. Chairs like these have character. They have their own history.

Okay I guess i'm certifiable now. I'll see what I can do about getting some photos up.

Every year on the 3rd of July, there is a special family friendly fireworks display and evening events at the park in Peoria. My sister and I attended this along with some of our friends as well as some new acquaintances.

Hare"y" Business

This afternoon as I was mowing the lawn I had this little object dart out from in my front of my mower. As it was headed directly for Knightly's (our Boarder Collie) domain I decided to quickly run after it and capture it. I was successful in obtaining the small fella and put him in a 5 gallon bucket for safe keeping along with a bunch of sod and grass. Later on Anna and I pulled him out in the safe confines of our bathroom and had fun modeling the poor guy. While I'm sure he didn't enjoy it he had an arsenal of great poses.

Swing, Brother! Swing!

Hey everyone, this past weekend My sister (Anna) and I participated in a Dance showcase. Our chosen rhythm was "swing" and our song... Swing, Brother! Swing. The success of the choreography can be attributed to Anna and all the mess-ups to myself.

A little history on this project... This showcase dance (the entire event) was announced something like 2 weeks prior to the actual event. I am approaching the end of the semester which means I have a slew of final projects. Anna and I spent a bunch of time on the weekends watching numerous online swing videos feature various moves. Once we got two aerials to the point that we were comfortable, we began working on finding music that was suitable for the showcase. After finding "Swing, Brother! Swing," I began with preliminary basic choreography. Anna then took this and actually made something worth watching (I actually doubt she used any of my original stuff). We then spent several nights as well as the entire Friday leading up to the dance on Saturday night practicing. We got all dressed up and this is what we produced.

So I was thinking I needed to post and get some more attention. I have been fairly distant these past couple of days... er - weeks, perhaps even months. I don't know. To say the least I have been busy. My recipe of life right now includes a fairly balanced mixture of Work, School, and Church. And that all I'm providing for my life update. Now for the important and interesting things.

In the recent months I have connected with some other local photographers. We have since made a trip to Chicago to experiment with new photographic scenery and will probably go back for more in the future. We also have taken the time to get together and experiment in a more local environment... Pottstown, IL.

Historic Peoria...

While walking through the older parts of Peoria, I found a great little area. At the top of the bluff, in Peoria, there are some awesome houses. Which date back to... 1800s, which yes, I know, isn't THAT old, but I love the style of the homes and the age they proudly proclaim. The house below was one of them which had a plaque providing information about the home. Enjoy!

It has been requested that I post pictures from the "barn dance" experience!. Yes! I was there and again, yes! I did dance. Now that we got that out of the way, I can begin posting pictures from this event.

Unfortunately, due to the lighting restrictions, I didn't have much opportunity to capture the dancers in a recognizable fashion so I decided to to focus more on a creative approach to the problem. I also got some of the musicians, they weren't moving too fast.

Winter Fun!

Well, I driving in the snow, but getting stuck is no fun. My personal attraction to driving in the snow arises from the challenge provided by it. Driving without spinning out and coming to a unfortunate demise, is indeed a thrill.

Well last night I had an unfortunate happenstance. No, I didn't spin out and come to an unfortunate demise. I'm writing this post aren't I? hmm....

No I found out that my Camry wasn't made to plow snow with its front bumper, and that if the snow was deep enough, No matter how good of a driver I was, I wasn't going anywhere. Well of course I wasn't alone, but I will change the names to protect the innocent parties! Me and "Bill" were stuck, and after my car failed to produce acceptable distance in 15mins, we concluded we must walk.

We were currently 1-1.5 mi from "Bill's" house, so we proceeded to make a run/walk for it. The snow had stopped coming down at this point, but we still had the wind and drifting snow to enjoy.

Well to make a long story short...

We made it back, a tow truck then came to pulled out my car, which by that time had gotten barried under 4ft of snow, by a wonderful county snow plow :D.

To say the least, My car and I are NOT on speaking terms as of today. We are considering counseling, but I don't expect it to help.

Wonderous Flexability

Well as you probably have probably figured by now, as we get older our bodies assume less and less flexability.

This photo I took last Sunday shows incredible flexability that us older folks can only dream about. The other amazing thing about this is that the subject still maintains an incredible amount of cuteness while bent in this manner.

Sledding Hightlights

Well let me start this off by stating we only had one casualty on the slopes today. Here is a picture of the unfortunate lad. Because of the enjoyment of everyone we decided to just move him aside and take care of him later on. (Looks like rigor mortus has set in a little bit)

Moving onto the more interesting highlight we will continue with a nice backside view of our home. Isn't she a beauty?

Another hightlight would include the sledding confusion of our newly acquired southern "folk". Often wiping out, one even proceded to go down backwards. Obviously they have a lot to learn after moving from Texas.

Like every sledding day there is a few poor misguided souls who feel compelled to taste the snow in uncomfortable positions.

One person even attempted to run down the hill at high speeds. The reason for this nonsense is still unknown.

This guys obviously does not have any class when it comes to sledding -period-

But the winner of this excapade was the two guys who thought it would be fun to slide through a ceder tree. The effects of this incident can only be described by the photo below.

So that basically covers the highlights of the day. Please share any comments or question you may have concerning this coverage.

This is an interesting experience, being tagged. I was supposedly tagged by *________ at *________. While feeling compelled to follow through, it is interesting to guess what might happen if I didn't. Perhaps the sky would fall... or perhaps, life as we know would be abliterated. Like I said it is an interesting experience being tagged.

A time with friends...

Hello all! Last evening was spent over coffee games and laughs. The Peiffers joined us along with a new aquaintence James McDonald VI (not to be confused with his father or grandfather). Our dinner was followed by games. We played two, one new game and one which is sorta a growing favorite among the masses. Nola was the first and second was "Rich Man, Poor Man". Joshua did succeed in crushing me in Nola, however in "Rich Man, Poor Man. I throughly demoralized him. Here are some pictures from the evening. For you who aren't familier, there is a crown and a bag awarded to the appropiate winners/loser of each round of "Rich Man, Poor Man".

That's right Anna never got a crown or a bag. Doesn't she looked bored too?

Well today we received an email notifying us that some of our pastor's movers pooped out on him and they were in need of some guys to come and help get the rest of the belongings into the house. I actually got the email in the early afternoon and after a quick decision, made the 10 min ride over to their new house. I would have pictures of various people working, but of course I was working the as well ; ). I did however, after the work slowed down and some of the guys were going to the lake, get out my camera. The first photo is of James VI and Caleb out in a canoe and the other photo is of the rest of the kids who wanted to desperately to come down to the lake's edge.

A New...

Okay, this is a long awaited article I know, but I have been busy...

I know, I know that won't cut it as a good excuse. I have indeed been inexcusably delinquent in posting about my new nephew Timmothy Allen Draper III. I have recently and repetatively been asked what I thought of being an uncle, I have now given it some thought and I am here to share with all that life is basically the same just more enjoyable. Just like it took me a while to get used to my new brother-in-law, it will probably take me a while to get used to my new role as an uncle. Let me take your through little of my history for a little bit.

HISTORY:
It all started back when I was born, little did I know and little did my parents know that I was going to be the only boy in the house (not counting papa of course). Once I realized this I saw it as my duty to act like three sons combined into one...

"unfortunetly for my parents my two other identities never acted like older boys"

I was the youngest with two older sisters. Due to this fact, I never had to deal with little punks, so logically I was the worst one around (just asked my sisters). I spent 19 years in this state

"ask someone else if you want an accurate read out of how I am now"

of course I did have friends...

"There were a few that were nice enough to use that word in the same sentance as my name"

... but I never had a brother to whom I could look up to or look down to (evil grin) until... That's right, TJ. I can remember when we first met his family, it was back, probably, oh... hmm early 1990s I think...

"I was still a little punk and a big problem for my sisters"

...At this point in time our family was over at their house and Rachel and TJ were talking

"They were the older siblings so they were able to carry on a civilized conversation"

Anna (thats right!), along with TJs sisters, dared me (probably to get me out of their hair) to go and taunt Rachel and TJ with the ever so famous jingle "Rachel and TJ up in a tree..." It was very humerous at the time, however, little did Anna and I know, but it would actually turn out that way (minus the tree part of course). In 2005 Rachel and TJ were joyfully join in marriage...

"TJs family moved to TN for a period of time between then and now, they weren't courting for 10+ years. That would be scary!"

... I now had a brother(in-law) to whom I could look up to and tease. So that little bit takes care of the history, now we can go onto the current state of things.

THE CURRENT STATE:
In August Rachel and TJ were blessed with a little man called Timmothy Allen Draper III. Today this blessing was baptised. It was a special moment for our family along with our extended church family. Rachel and TJ made the 8 hour journey from Tennessee to Illinois so that we could celebrate together in welcoming this new life into the coventant of our Lord. So I am now an uncle to a young little soul filled with life accompanied with an increadible future ahead of him. God Bless this new family!
